Libby, by Overdrive

Public Libraries – At Your Fingertips

PROJECT BRIEF

Libby, by Overdrive is used by millions of people to access digital editions of books, magazines, and audiobooks at their local libraries.

I was approached by Overdrive, the parent company, to revamp parts of Libby to improve the reading experience. In addition to reworking the reading UX… I also introduced shiny, new icons!

Libby is an expansive app with several key UX screens.

With the growing popularity of audiobooks, one of the pressing UX problems was ensuring that both reading & listening to literature would feel like a consistent experience.

One of the significant additions was the usage of a “sheet”; which is a design element that slides up, and typically presents additional fine-grain control.

In this case, the “sheet” features a table of contents, or an audio scrubber for textual and audio content (respectively).

CONCLUSION

It was immensely fulfilling to work with Overdrive on something that has such great literary value to millions of people around the world.

Congratulations to Overdrive for shipping Libby v6.0… and many thanks to the project managers, and software engineers that I worked alongside (Greg 😉)!

Available on the App Store, and Google Play store.
